Hello all,

I am currently looking at sponsoring my fiancé through the common law and spouse class, but on the form it says that in order to sponsor her through the common law and spouse in Canada class she already has to be living in Canada. The whole point of my sponsorship is that we can live together in Canada because we currently both live abroad. Surely there’s another “class” to sponsor her through?

I only ask because this common law and spouse in Canada class is the only one mentioned on the form, but I assumed the default was for people living outside Canada? Was I correct in that assumption?

What form are you looking at? On the checklist there are options to sponsor a spouse within Canada as well as outside of Canada (family class vs in Canada class)

What kcward said. What you are looking for is 'outland spousal sponsorship' and yes, it most certainly does exist and is very common (we did this ourselves).

If you are going to refer to a form, it helps if you actually state WHICH form, which section, question etc.
