Spouse open work permit.

Hello guys!

I would like to ask about spouse work permit.

I have a student visa (it is not for post secondary program, just for ESL) and I am in Canada now.

My wife has PGWP and she is working as a Supervisor in restaurant now.

So I decided to apply for spouse open work permit.

However, when I apply for work permit through CIC online application,

I should answer and check Eligibility first.

During the Eligibility question, when I put my current status is "student" it doesn't go to Spouse work permit directly.

They only ask about "Do you plan to work on Campus?" or "Are you currently taking post secondary program?" and so on.

Finally, they said, you are not eligible to apply for Spouse work permit. So I couldn't apply for work permit with my study visa.

In addition, I chose the current status "Visitor" instead of "student" on the CIC website which step of Eligibility question, it went next page and I can

apply for spouse open work permit. It was so weird for me, so I called CIC in this morning, and they said yes, I can apply. After that they emailed to

me by linking web page.

But it was same result as what I already experienced yesterday.

So do I have to apply a visitor visa first to apply for open work permit on online? or do you think I can apply for open work

permit with my current student visa? So what I can do right now? If you know something, please let me know.

To the best of my knowledge your spouse doesn't qualify for a OWP if you are just taking ESL courses.

I mean that my wife graduated from a college in Canada, so she has PGWP Visa.

I am asking about how I can apply the spouse visa with my student visa.
