Can I as a Spouse apply for a Open Work Permit, when my common law partner is permanent resident?

We are applying soon for the Family Sponsorship included with the open work permit, but I found out today that I will not have Alberta Health Insurance while on immplied status. Just trying to find a faster way for the work permit. My current work permit expires in May 2015.

If you are applying for PR using the outland route - no open work permit is available to you.

If you are applying using the inland route, include an open work permit with your original application. It will be approved once you have AIP (first stage approval). AIP is currently taking around 15 months to complete.

Depending on where you are from, the outland route is likely much wiser.

Hi, thanks for your quick answer.
I have to go Inland because Iam in Canada and working. Iam just worried that I would not have Alberta Helath Insurance for a long time, I was just trying to avoid it. But maybe I have to get private Insurance just in case something happens.

Hi P3,

Visa approval highly depends on case to case. Usually SOWP takes 2 months as per the latest timelines. However, as mentioned earlier, it depends on case to case and also from the location you have applied. You can follow other threads in this forum and you will get a rough idea about the process as well.

As per the process time set by CIC, it takes approximately 2 months. If you are lucky, you might get a response even before.
