Greetings! Recently I applied my spouse open work permit online. I just want to know the current processing time to get the response from CIC.

depend upon visa office if inside canada it will take 17 days other visa office check below link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp/workers.asp

Sorry Unfortunately I don't think so you would able to apply for your wife's open work permit as for spouse open work permit one should be fully employed in either NOC A or Noc B job. If I am wrong please correct as that's what I know soo far but it could depend upon the province where you are working it may have some different rules about which i have no information.

I think you can still bring in your wife with some extended requirements for e.g. showing proof of enough funds to afford her in Canada easily etc. I am not sure whether they would allow OWP or TRV. But there is a slightly different set of requirements from NOC 0,A or B since normally you are NOT allowed to bring family on other kind of work visas.

The best way to proceed is to ask CIC directly giving CORRECT details of your status and they applying.

Hi all,
I have open work permit in Canada and I am planning to get Spouse open work permit (SOWP) for my wife, who is in India now.
I know she can apply for the SOWP through VFS, but I am wondering if she can apply online. I tried to search this but could not get satisfactory information.
I know we can apply for open work permit online, if we are inside Canada but not sure if this can be done for those who are living outside of Canada.
Please guide me.
Also does it make difference in time and reliability if I apply online vs I apply via VFS?

You can apply online from canada itself on behalf of ur wife.It is more faster these days.On contrary if u check timeline these days it is around 3-4months.I too have applied for my wife and got first reply from them after a month and that too prove ur relation.In order to apply online u need to open MYCIC account which is very easy.
Further r u working in category 0,A or B noc level.If yes then and then u can call ur wife on SOWP.

She doesn't really need a previous work experience to get the open work permit. Completing an advanced degree is enough. "Open" work permit means she will get a work permit that is not tied to any particular industry/expertise/profession. She can work as a cashier in MacDonald's or as a Financial Services Advisor in CIBC- there's no limit to what she can do. As for proof of relationship, include your marriage certificate and if possible, wedding pictures and other pictures of you two together at various times. What is needed is the marriage certificate. The others are just little extras to strengthen your application. The letter of explanation should include (a) a letter written, dated and signed by her which states that she needs the work permit to be with you in Canada and work to support you. The letter should mention your name and occupation, the amount of money in the bank statement of account you will submit as part of the application and most importantly, her ties to your home country. (b) A letter of support written by you, signed and dated which confirms that she will be going to Canada with your support and that you will take care of her financial needs until she is able to find work. Some people also recommend that this letter be notarized. Your letter should also include specifics of your job, your contact phone numbers (Mobile, Home, Work), your e-mail address, so that they can contact you if they want. (c ) Your letter of employment showing how much you earn (d) Your bank statement (e) Your own work permit and Visa (f) Ties to your country such as lands/houses bought in her name (g) and any other thing you wish to explain regarding her application. Not having a property is common. Stick to proving your relationship, her educational profile, your work permit and other details in Canada. That should be sufficient. Very few qualified people who go on work permits have properties back home and they all get through provided the rest of their credentials are fine.

I would advise to add a few more proofs of your relationship except marriage certificate. Because you recently got married and you just came back for attending your marriage ceremony. It is not uncommon for embassy to ask for printed wedding invitation card, evidence of honey money (tickets, hotel reservations slips), pictures of weddings etc.) This all is because to them a recent eastern marriage might need to be authenticated. However, if you are married for longer period / have kids etc. none of this would be needed at all.

Appreciate that. Thank you. It just built up out of frustration when my own process took a long time (where as it was quite unanticipated - considering details of the case), i was hanging in the middle for a long time, irritated and tried to be better informed by reading as much i could on my own situation.

It was during that course i realized, i have come to know a bit more and perhaps can help to avoid the same situation for others.

Usually once people are established in Canada, they tend to visit forum rarely, let alone respond to some one. It doesn't take much time in general, you occasionally take a quick look and answer stuff you can. But it goes a LONG WAY for some one stuck in between. I know, i have been there...
