Spouse Open Work Permit Validity

Hi,

I have a closed work permit till 2018 and my spouse has a open work permit issued based on my work permit and valid till 2018 , My doubt is if my employer asks me to leave canada before 2018, Should my spouse come along with me by leaving her job or is she eligible to work till 2018 irrespective of my status here.

She should be okay to stay.

I remember seeing a few posts on this forum about an OWP holder who withdrew their application, and also an OWP holder who got denied their PR, and they didn't have their OWPs taken away.

I believe one lawyer even suggested that while CIC MAY take the OWP away based on the status of their PR applicant, we haven't heard of these instances thus far.

For your case it's even less complicated since the only thing her OWP is dependent on is your closed work permit, and not another PR application. Unless otherwise stated on her work permit, it should good until its expiry date noted.
