I am going to be transferred to Canada with the company I already work for and due to the type of job (level 0, A or B according to the National Occupational Classification (NOC), my common-law partner should be entitled to the spouse open work permit.
I'm told by the immigration team at my work that my boyfriend can only apply for his work permit at the Port of Entry (and that it would take about 30 days from then), but I have read elsewhere that he should be able to apply at the same time as me, with the applications cross-referenced to each other.
Since he will have to quit his job to come with me, I would like to 1) get his work permit as soon as possible to minimise the time he is not working and 2) have some sort of reassurance that he'll have a Canada work permit before he quits his job, packs and shows up in Canada with me.
Since my company is applying for my work permit, does anyone know if in fact my partner can apply for his spouse open work permit at the same time as me (so that he already has it when we arrive in Canada)?
Thank you for the help!
Luciana
