Assuming your visitor visa was issued based upon your principal spouse's permit, was / is valid for longer than 6 months, you should be expecting time frame of 4 months roughly as per CIC website around that time frame.

This would effectively mean you should hear back soon.

You are welcome. Likely that your TRV was issued because of being a spouse which means principal applicant had a NOC 0, A or B job or a study visa at a reputable place.

In such a situation there is little chance of refusal assuming there is reasonable time left in the principal applicant's wp.

That is all I can guess since you haven't provided any details on your or your spouse's status.

My wife is studying in Thompson Rivers University, kamloops, British columbia. I came here on 1st September. Applied on 6th September and they received on 7th September online.

So the trv you came here on - was valid for longer than six months, likely same expiry as your spouse's study permit?

In this case it should be easily approved and would be valid for as long as your spouse's study permit. Usually they might be worried about availability of funds, but that is evaluated at the time they approved your trv based upon spouse's study permit.

I would like to thank you seriously.
I just wanna let you know that we have shown enough funds for my wife & myself separately. let's see till what time it will come. Do you have any idea in which category I belongs to? Work permit or Work Permit Extension or in which? Can you also let me know some idea till what time i will receive it. I mean i have seen some of the applicants of 15th september got it.

Thanks

No worries. Funds would have been a concern when you applied for dependent trv earlier. Not now when you are already on that and asking for a wp.

These work permit / extension categories are new. Added after Jan 1, 2016 for processing times.

All previous ones - were taking between 100-120 days. So this change was new to me to.

My understanding about that is they recently changed work force on this and are trying to cut down wp processing time from in side Canada. Hence when we see "work permit" (new) it appears saying ONE month processing time.

All prior submitted applications (before jan 2016) should be kind of backlog and could take up to 4 months though we never know when they get efficient and approve those sooner. This is just an individual opinion seeing these changes in "processing times" page.

So I can't say with certainty whether you be treated as new work permit (coz you never had one before) or extension because you already got a TRV based upon your spouse. I think it has more to do with how / when they actually cover the backlog.

I am trying to extend my spousal open work permit and was wondering about the chances of approval. My wife extended her new study permit and got approves till July 2017. My spousal open work permit is expiring in March and would like to extend it based on her new study permit.

My question is, will there be any problems in getting my open work permit as the duration is 4 months only or that doesn't matter?

Seniors pls respond.

Thanks

It surely matters, and CIC doesn't issue dependent work permits beyond the expiry of principal one. Besides to the best of my knowledge, they issue it for at least six months.

So for a 4 month duration, they would likely delay its processing and then say you dont have enough time left in the validity of principal spouse and refuse.

Thanks for the quick response.
So, my next extension would be after her getting a job in NOC O,A or B category along with her pay slips right?

Her PGWP + Skilled job offer. If she has a job offer, you both could apply together - for her PGWP, plus your SOWP.

Often there is this transition period i.e. when a student is transitioning to PG worker, often there is a gap in him/her getting job offer. CIC faces this pretty often and as far as i know they do issue TRVs to cover that period in case you are not yet eligible for SOWP

Dear all,

Me & my wife , we both came as a student in Canada & we both hold a valid study permit.our class will start from 4th september:, however now I want to apply for open work permit as my wife is a full time student.Am I eligible to do it ? As I want she should continue her study and I can go for open work permit, though I’m also having a study permit, if I get open work permit then it will more convenient for both of us .i don't want to continue my study, i want to work full time to support my wife ,as well as enhance my work experience in canada.
1.So my enquiry is if husband and wife both are full time student in canada ,then can one of us apply for open work permit inside Canada.
2. what is the procedure to apply for open work permit in side canada .
3. Is there any one like us who have came (husband & wife) canada as a student and then one of them applied for open work permit & successfully got the open work permit ?

I’m looking forward to hearing from all of you as a matter of urgency.
Thank you so much indeed

Yes you can. You'll need to stop working until you wait to see if you get approved. Seems like it takes 4-5 months at the moment. You are not guaranteed on OPW as the spouse of an international student.
