Hello everyone ,

I graduated from McGill University last year (M.Sc. of Computer Science) and I hold a Post Graduate Work Permit which is valid from April 2013 until April 2016. (I graduated in October 2013)

During the last year I was looking for a job in the US and I got an offer from Yahoo,Inc as a Software Engineer but I was not selected in the US H1b lottery so I am planning to go back to Canada in September and start looking for a job. (right now I am visiting my home country, Iran)

I am going to marry in May/June. I'd like to know if my wife can accompany me to Canada in September when I want to look for a job. Right now I don't have a job in Canada. (It will be her first time coming to Canada)

Do I need to first find a job in Canada and then apply for her visa or is it possible to get a work/visitor (whatever type of) visa for her right away before I find a job ?

I guess , surprisingly ! , Software Engineer is not skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of NOC. Will this be a problem for my wife's visa application ?

Please let me know if any clarification is necessary,

Thanks in advance,
Arian

Your wife can apply to come to Canada on a visitor visa immediately. However she won't qualify to apply for an open work permit until you have a skilled job in Canada.

Thanks for the response ,

I am afraid that they refuse her because of not being "convinced" she has a strong tie back to the origin country.

And would you please give more details about "SKILLED" jobs. I most probably will be working as a "Software Engineer".

Bests ,
Arian

Do I need to convince the officer that my wife has a tie back to the origin country ?

(She is going to accompany me during the time I will be working in Canada under Post Graduate Work Permit and we are going to apply for the PR under FSW .)

I heard it's better to apply for spouse's visa after 6 months of marriage ? is it likely to be rejected if I apply in 3/4 months ?

Thanks

There are no hard and fast rules. Each application is individual. The key will be showing she has tied to her home country and isn't an overstay risk.

What happens if my PGWP expires before my PR is issued ?

I believe that I have to apply for a Bridging Work Permit 4 months ahead , right ?

what happens to the status of my Wife visa ? If she's on Visiting Visa or Open Work Permit ,

Thanks in advance
