I am the main applicant with employer-specific work permit with my wife on spousal OWP and two kids on study permits.

Our existing permits were expiring in Oct 2023, however my wife got it renewed for additional 18 months through recent opt-in policy and now her open work permit is valid until April 2025.

While my wife can continue working in Canada until 2025, but how me and kids can extend our stay? Thank

Your kids need to apply to extend their study permits.

You would need to get your employer specific work permit extended. If you are on an LMIA supported work permit, this means your employer needs to obtain a new LMIA.

I am a postdoc and it is less likely that I can get my contract renewed. I will be completing two years by the end of my existing work permit

In that case your options are to find another employer willing to give you a job offer / go through the LMIA process so that you can switch to a new closed work permit tied to that new employer. Or, alternatively, change your status to a visitor record and stop working. I suppose another option would be to change to a student visa and complete additional full time education in Canada. But not sure that makes sense for you.

Thanks it makes sense and is well understood.

My spouse works in TEER 5 (low wage) with her open work permit. Will this affect my application if I apply for a visitor record to extend my stay in Canada and keep applying for new jobs?

I don't think so.

Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack the thread. Am just curious:

The spouse got SOWP based from the PA’s closed WP. Now that PA’s closed work permit is expiring, where does the SOWP stand?

That's the most confusing situation. Previously she had a SOWP. Now she has OWP due to special policy. It is a similar case like recently most iranian (in canada) got OWP due to a special policy.

I am waiting to receive my wife OWP letter to see what note it has written on it. In previous letter, at bottom under remarks/observation, a note was written "Accompanying spouse on WP valid to same date"
