hello,

I became PR 4 years ago. my spouse became PR 3 years ago. Under current rules, can we both apply for citizenship? Or, she has to wait 1 more year?

Thanks !

If you want both of you to apply for citizenship at same time, you have to wait one more year until your spouse reaches 4 years.

Otherwise, you can apply now and your spouse can apply next year.

Thanks ! so, citizenship applications are always for the individual and not for family?

Also, we don't have kids yet, but just want to know does the physical presence requirements apply for minor children as well?

I saw a statement by McCullum that the govt is bringing radical changes to Citizenship in the coming weeks. I hope they restore the 3 year residency rule :)

It doesn't matter. When you apply same time, it is considered to be a family application. Otherwise it is considered to be an individual application.

Minor children still need to meet the PR requirements. However while they do not need to meet the physical requirement, as dependents, they cannot become Canadians before the parents. So they either have to apply same time as one of the parents or both parents, or wait until one of the parent is Canadian before applying.

You can apply together as a family,,which may make tracking the application easier--but ea h individual has to meet all.the qualifications.

when you apply together you get test date and oath dates together which save trips and time.
It looks better and great when you are both together for ceremony
