My partner came to Canada in 2021 on a student visa, completed his master's, and graduated in June 2023. He applied for a work permit last year, which is valid until 2026. We got married legally in Canada in 2023, and he plans to apply for permanent residency before his work permit expires. I’ve been working for the past five years but haven’t found consistent work since January 2024, only working occasionally. I’m not earning much, and he’s working a minimum-wage job. I’m starting a 12-month dental assistant program next month. Will my limited employment and his current job situation impact our chances of getting permanent residency? Do i need to show my highest level of education? We live together in Windsor, Ontario, and I’m feeling confused about the process.

I'm feeling uncertain about the process and have three main questions:

  1. Does the highest level of education matter for the application?
  2. Is showing five years of work experience important?
  3. Will my financial status affect our chances of getting permanent residency?
Keep in mind that my partner works part-time, and I only work occasionally.
