Hello Everyone,

I am currently holding a PGWP (valid till 2014) and recently got a Job which falls in NOC A category. I want to apply OWP(open work permit) for my wife. she currently reside in Pakistan and have completed her Bachelors in nursing with total of 2 year of work experience.

So far what i have read on this forum is that half of the people says that your spouse will not be issued OWP if you hold PGWP(which is also kind of open work permit); though i have JOB but still my permit is open until it expires in 2014.

So my question it are there any chances of her getting OWP? what documents should i provide and if your spouse have got visa under such case please Reply with the method you used or suggest. :)

Thanks

If you have a job in Skill level A- yes your wife is eligible for a OWP. Include a letter from your employer and ask your employer to describe your role and specifically say that your job is in skill level A or give the NOC code. Please look at other posts to see others myself included got OWP for our spouses with our PGWP+ Skill level 0, A,B. The only details you need to look into is how to deal with the Pakistan office. My spouse was living in Canada - when I applied. Alternatively you can have her come as a visitor and once she is here re-apply for her OWP if that is easier. Good luck.

Hi Sohail,
Firstly, congrats on getting the job.
You can apply for a OWP(risky) for your wife and also you can apply for a visitor visa(safe). After landing here, she can convert it to OWP.

Good Luck!!!

@ mwan: Your spouse must have applied as inland ? do u have any idea how much it time take for outland applicant?

@ amarecharla: can you please highlight why applying for OWP is risky? what i have heard is that if you apply for visit visa its more difficult to get one, specially for spouse.

On top of that ... i am little confused :-X .. I have already applied for PNP(for me and my wife).. it will take around 3 months and after getting PNP certificate i am planning to file PR for both myself and my wife. NOW if i apply for OWP right now will it be Okay if its still in process and i file for PR because what i have read is that OWP takes 6-8 months to process and i don't want to wait for that long. so what do you suggest should i apply for OWP right away and mean while its still processing i can apply for PR or is it a bad idea? will OWP processing get affected if i file PR for my wife?
