Spousal Sponsorship, wife is in Canada on work permit

I am a natural born Canadian citizen and my wife is from eastern Europe. We recently moved back to Canada together and she is here on a temporary work visa. We are wanting to apply for the inland spousal Sponsorship permanent residency. I've heard a few mixed tales of people saying she might have to leave the country or wait for her work visa to expire.

Wondering about our options, even if that means applying for the Outland version from inside Canada.

No you can apply inland if your wife intends to remain in Canada during sponsorship. Short vacations seem to be ok.

So as far as I understand she is able to maintain her status while this application is in process.

My follow-up question is that if her work permit expires but she is still in Canada, I was under the impression that as long as her application is being processed she can still remain in the country legally. Is this true?

Yes she will get implied status if you apply inland with an open work permit. The work permit should take around 4 months to process.

She can remain as a visitor, she can't keep working if her work permit expires (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone). Inland you can apply for an open work permit also - this takes around 4 months from when you submit the PR application.

There's so much waiting involved I encourage anyone to submit asap :)

Yes, I have heard it is a lot of waiting, to be sure. I was just curious because she is coming on a short term work visa. I am just worried if the company doesnt renew/extend her work visa but we have already started the PR application if she will still have status in Canada. I realize that it would be illegal for her to work while she was in the country as a visitor.

Not yet, hopefully by next month. We are working on the immigration paperwork at the moment, just waiting for the visa application to be completed so we can book our travel tickets.

You could have sponsored her while living in Europe.
Yes, we were thinking about that as well but we were planning on moving jobs soon and didn't know where we would be living even in a month as we were applying for jobs in several different companies. Luckily, she found something in Canada and for me I don't need any visa so it's easy to get something there.together.

What kind of work permit is she coming on? How long will it be valid? What country is she from?
