Spousal sponsorship or permanent residence? Need advice

Hi Everybody,

I have received my PR recently, but now I need some advice with respect to my fiance's immigration to Canada.

We would be soon getting married but I am unable to decide which would be the best way to get her to Canada.

Whether we should get married first and then file for her PR? Or should I file for her PR and get married after her PR is sorted? Or should I just apply for her spousal sponsorship?

I am yet to travel to Canada for all the documentation formalities.

Would request you guys to share your opinions and suggest what would be the best way out.

Thanks in advance. Cheers

Ankit

You can only sponsor her for PR once you are married or if you are common law (common law means you have lived together for a minimum of one full year).

It sounds like you have received your PR visa but haven't used it to come to Canada and land yet. If that's the case, be aware that if you get married before you land, you MUST return your visa to the visa office (since you will no longer be single), submit all of the paperwork to add your new wife to your application, and wait for CIC to issue a new visa to both of you. Whatever you do, if you get married before coming to Canada - do not use the PR visa you have now to land and become a PR. If you do - you'll never be able to sponsor your wife.

Thanks for your revert, our decision of marriage depends on what is the most convenient way for both of us to move together.

We both would want to work in our individual capacities, I need to understand what would be the best n most convenient way to come to Canada. Should she separately file for her PR as a single or I can first land in canada and get my things sorted and then get married and then file for her PR as my wife.

Hypothetically, once I have landed in Canada, should I file for her PR as my wife ( assuming we have gotten married ) or spousal sponsorship is better?

Please advice.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

I don't understand what you mean by this: " once I have landed in Canada, should I file for her PR as my wife ( assuming we have gotten married ) or spousal sponsorship is better". Spousal sponsoring and filing for PR as your wife is the same thing.

If you decide to land first, you would then return home and get married. Note that in order to sponsor her for PR you will have to return to Canada (you cannot apply to sponsor her while outside of Canada) and you will have to remain in Canada while the application is being processed.
