The most important thing to do is to be truthful in your application. Typically, working without authorization in Canada is not grounds for refusal, but...you misrepresented the facts in your visitor extension application, which is not good.

So, you are now out of status and it's too late to apply for Restoration of Status. This certainly is a difficult spot to be in.

IMO, the only option you have (besides leaving Canada), is to IMMEDIATELY apply for Inland Sponsorship as soon as you are married. There's no reason to include the Open Work Permit, like most people do, because you will not qualify for the OWP. You will also not benefit from Implied Status, meaning that you will be out of status until your application is processed. This means that you could be removed from Canada, but those with an Inland application submitted before CBSA finds out about your status, are usually left alone until they have a decision on the first stage of the application. This is currently taking ~ 16 months after the application has been received by CIC.

Good luck!

I forgot to mention my second visa extension was approved and I have a visitor status until September.

Yeah, you didn't mention that in your post. ;)

That makes things a little easier for you.

You should qualify for the OWP if you submit an Inland application and OWP before your current status expires. The misrepresentation issue from earlier, may or may not be a problem.

Just write out the sob story mostly like you wrote here, and emphasize that you know it was a huge mistake and you regret what you did.

You could add you thought your boss would try to get you a work permit but didn't follow through, but I wouldn't mention the boss saying he would pay you under the table and not doing it as that makes you look less "ignorant" of the process.

You were in a relationship before all that happened so I can't see them thinking you are only in the relationship to be able to work a job... just be sure to show proof you were in the relationship before the job situation.
