Send any correspondence you have, including anything current up until the day you file! Anything helps. If you don't have airline tickets or receipts, passport stamps, if you used one to cross the border, or if you bought plane tickets online, your e-itinerary, correspondence about wedding planning would be great, and of course photos..i sent over 200 photos myself

What if we only pay the first part of application fees, and then pay the remaining PR fees within a few months?
Is that a huge problem? Will it delay things? I thought as long as they have it before the initial application is done - it wouldn't matter.

We just don't have $1000+ sitting around right now.

thanks for your reply. if i apply outland, should i start the application before she comes here in canada or is it better if she's here already, then start the application? coz ive read in some of the forums that the immigration might deny her of entry in canada since she has an intention of already living in canada that's why she's applying for PR.is that true?thanks again

well. its upto you , you want her to be with you and then apply or apply first.
yes the canadian border authorities are very strict in this thing but till the time your wife gives them enough reasons that she will be going back and will not be staying in canada for longer period of time and can show them stronger ties with her country, she is good to enter canada and stay with you.

i am asking you because i am thinking of visiting my spouse to canada. but i am confused and scared that if they reject me. though i can show them return ticket. which way will be easier and what other strong evidence i can show?

It's actually wise for the sponsor to travel across the border with the applicant. Let the sponsor drive/do all the talking as much as possible. Assure them that you are going about it legally and will leave when you are supposed to. If you have applied for PR already, take the receipt that you paid for it Do you have a job? Take a paystub or a letter from your employer stating you are to report back to work on such and such a date.

I don't mean to be blunt, but yes it will delay things. It's been shown across the board that people who don't pay it all up front, face delays up to months. I would wait until you have the money then apply. But that's just me. You CAN just pay a certain amount, but like I said, delays will happen if you don't pay it all up front.

Hello Kitoy,

Canada is a bit different from the U.S. on this point. Having applied or intending to apply for permanent residency doesn't preclude a person from visiting Canada. What matters is that the authorities believe that the person won't work or study in Canada and will leave once their temporary status runs out. Although having a spouse in Canada means the visitor may attract greater scrutiny from border officials, more likely than not a person from a visa-exempt country will be let in.

There is a question on one of the immigration forms that asks, "Have you [...] ever been refused admission to, or ordered to leave, Canada or any other country?" It's not clear to me whether or how being refused entry could affect one's PR application. I suppose if a person had been caught trying to enter Canada to work illegally, this could be taken as evidence that they had an immigration motive in marrying a Canadian.

A22(2) states that the intention of a foreign national to become a permanent resident does not
preclude them from becoming a temporary resident if the BSO is satisfied that they will leave
Canada by the end of the period authorized for their stay.
A person’s desire to await the outcome of an application for permanent residence from within
Canada may be legitimate and should not automatically result in the decision to refuse entry. A
BSO at Immigration Secondary should distinguish between such a person and an applicant who
has no intention of leaving Canada if the application is refused.
In rendering a decision, the BSO should consider:
• the length of time required to process the application for permanent resident status;
• the means of support;
• obligations/ties in home country;
• the likelihood of the applicant leaving Canada if the application is refused; and
• compliance with the requirements of the Act and Regulations while in Canada.
In some cases, the BSO may wish to issue a Visitor Record [IMM 1097B] documenting the details
of the trip for control purposes and provide thorough counselling regarding the conditions of entry.
In cases where the applicant has already received a favourable recommendation for permanent
resident status, the duration of time authorized at the port of entry should match the time required
to complete the processing of the application

Another question:

Does my spouse need to fill the Additional Dependant form if there are no dependants accompanying to Canada? We filled that form but after double checking it looks like it needs to be filled only if there is a dependant for my spouse. Else we don't need to fill it. Right?

Follow the document checklist. So no, you don't need it if there's no children or the like.
