Hi all,

I'm a Canadian PR sponsoring my spouse who lives overseas soon, and just wanted to ask if it's harder (or takes longer) to get sponsor approval if I'm a freelancer vs. being an employee? I know that the requirements are different if you're self-employed vs. employed by a company, and I just wanted to get everyone's perspectives and experiences. I'm currently a freelancer, but if being employed has distinct advantages like faster processing then I'm definitely open to finding work.

Thanks!

I don't think it matters.

If you have sufficient income/savings to support you and yours spouse via your self-employed job, then it's fine. I believe that you have been filling your self-employment income to CRA.

You also can purchase extended health insurnace, life insurance (add spouse name as beneficent) , and other means to show that you are settled in Canada (if that's why you think being employed is better?)
