Unfortunately my application for spousal PR was returned today :(

They have highlighted the Employment/Source of support and specifically this "Also submit your most recent Notice of Assessment or an equivalent document issued by the Canada Revenue Agency" in the form "Document Checklist - Spouse" IMM 5533, under supporting documents for sponsor.

Nothing else is highlighted. We only sent the Notice of assessment from CRA for the tax year 2015. Since we hadn't filed tax returns for the year 2016, we did not have the notice of assessment for the year 2016.

1) Are they looking for Notice of assessment from the tax year 2016 as we only sent the 2015's assessment?

2) Is it fair to assume nothing else is missing from my package? That they looked through the other sections too and did not just stop at the first missing document?

3) Should I redo all the forms to reflect latest dates?

Please help!

I am interested in this as well! I only have my 2015 option c because like you, I have not filed my 2016 taxes. I did however include a note stating I have not filed my 2016 taxes yet.

Oh dear... I'm in the same boat. Now I'm thinking I should go do my taxes today :o Did you also provide an original letter from your employer by chance?

You have to provide Notice of Assessment Option C Printout (you can get it by signing into you CRA account). This is the one they require. Did you just send in the regular Notice of Assessment?

When we sent in our package (2016) we did not have the current one so we sent in the one for previous year (2014) and when we got the current one (2015) we upload it via CSE.

Yes, I provided an employment letter. I also provided all my pay stubs and bank statements for the past 1 year. Even with all of these, I guess they want the latest notice of assessment.

However, can anybody confirm if that is what they actually want and I am not misreading it?

I just read your attachment. It does not say Notice of Assessment Option C Printout but for our document checklist it said specifically that. Hopefully someone who sent in their for 2017 can respond.

I would just attach what they have requested and resend.

Preity, there is a 2017 inland thread. Post your question in there and someone who has already submitted their application and received AOR can respond, either Maina or Abcd.

Here is link to thread:

Hey Guys,
i am in the same boat. They sent mine back on 15th March. They highlighted the "Employment/Source of Support" area but did not highlight anything else. I did submit an original letter from my employer stating everything they listed.
I filed my tax and got the Proof of Income Statement Option C today. My questions are:

1. Should i just send the forms that they sent back or do i need to fill them again? or do i need to fill them again?

2. Do i need to pay the fees again or my old receipt should be fine?

3. Should i submit the Proof of Income Statement Option C 2016 only or Do i need to wait for Notice of Assessment 2016 which according to CRA Online, i can view on 30th March?

Anyone who can help, i will greatly appreciate it.

I would really appreciate if someone could say if it's necessary for applicants to submit NoA for 2016. Our application filed at the end of February got returned because of an improperly certified birth certificate. Everything was fine besides that. Do we have to include a new tax document now? Isn't the due date for taxes the end of April? And don't you get the NoA many months later? My sponsor is just a student with no job. Thanks for answers.

They normally ask for the last three years in the PGP sponsorship program, and ask for those as Option C printouts. I did that, send 2013-2015. Now I have 2016, and I will send through a CSE when they request other docs.

We are applying through the spouse program though. :P
