I'm a US citizen and will be attending a university in Québec this fall. I'll be bringing my spouse with me, hopefully with an Open Work Permit and I have a few questions about the process.
1. I used the online CIC application to generate our document checklist and was given IMM 1295 as the work permit for my spouse. I opened the document, and can see that there is an option in the drop down menu for "Open Work Permit." Should we leave the "Details of Intended Work in Canada" section (with fields for prospective employer, LMO, etc.) empty since her permit will be based on my study permit and not based on a job offer? As I understand it, LMO or job offers aren't required for an OWP (that's the whole point?), so I'm guessing I should leave it blank or put "N/A" or something in those fields?
2. My document checklist includes "Purpose of Travel - Other" for my spouse. Would a written statement explaining that, as my spouse, she will be accompanying me during my studies and would like to work suffice?
3. We will have to fill out IMM 5409 - Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union. At the end of the document there is a space for a signature from a commissioner of oaths. Should we print the document out, bring it to a commissioner of oaths/notary, scan it, and submit it? How is this part supposed to be completed when you do it online?
4. Lastly, in completing my Québec Acceptance Certificate, I'm prompted to choose my spouse's "Reason for being in Quebec" from these options: Canadian citizen, foreign consular staff, foreign diplomat, foreign student, permanent resident, person without status, refugee, temporary foreign worker, or visitor. Even though she hasn't gotten her OWP, should I select temporary foreign worker?
Thanks in advance for any help!
