Spousal open work permit

Hi All,

I am working QA Engineer under NOC A category using Post graduation work permit which will expire in Oct 2018.

I received nomination from Ontario province and submitted my application for permanent residence to federal government in Feb 2017.

Received AOR in June 2017.
Paid RPRF in Sep 2017.

Awaiting medical request.

I intend to get married in July 2018 and would like to know whether my spouse is eligible to apply for spousal open work permit after one year of marriage or she can apply after the marriage with all required documents.

I would appreciate , if anyone could clarify me regarding this issue.

Regards,

So maybe I am the only one confused here with your dates.

Your PGWP expires OCt 2018, you are planning to get married in July 2018, you have a PR application in process.

So where I am confused is you talk about a spouse open work permit after one year of marriage, July 2019 by which time your PGWP is long gone. So where does the spouse work permit come in ?

With a PGWP expiring 10/2018 and getting married 7/2018 unlikely I think to succeed in a work permit application off back of PGWp given the processing time if nothing else as well as the remaining time.

As said maybe it’s just me confused with interpreting your dates.

Hi BS65,
Thanks for your response.
I am assuming that when I inform ICRC that I got married in July 2018 , my application be on hold since I change my status from single to married. I would have to wait till my spouse completes all the formalities including medical clearance so that we both land at the same time.

In the meantime, I can extend my work permit using BOWP( Bridge Open Work Permit) as my PR is under the process. I would like to know whether I can bring my spouse to Canada using SOWP using the work permit I have immediately after marriage or should my spouse wait for one year get PR processed.

Thanks.
