SPOUSAL APPLICATION - POLICE CERTIFICATE JAPAN

I just received a letter from the Manila Visa Office requesting me to submit a Police Certificate from Japan since I lived in Japan for 2 years. I have no problem requesting for the said certificate from our local Japanese Embassy, but the Manila Visa Office specified that I should comply and submit the said document within 30 days.

The problem in applying for the Police Certificate from Japan is the approximate processing time which is 2 months!

Has anyone experienced this before? What will happen if I am not able to comply with their request? Is there a way to ask them for an extension?

Thank you.

Respond to the letter immediately and inform them that you have requested/are requesting the police certificate but that it takes 2 months. (If possible, show them proof of this - for example a link to the consulate which says this, or an email from the Japanese consulate, or something.) If you inform Manila VO that you're working on it, they will wait for you. If you do nothing and send in the certificate late, there is a good chance they will have closed the case already and denied the PR.

As long as you inform them you need more time, it should be fine. (I had the same situation, asked for an extension of 6 weeks.)

Good luck!

Thank you for this information. And yes, we responded immediately. I also informed them of the period it will take before I receive the certificate, however, the office only gave us an additional 30 days.

I'm worried that it's still not enough time to wait for the release of the certificate and to send it to the visa office. Not to mention I still need to find time to take off from work just so I could claim the certificate from the Embassy in person. We're still grateful though for the period extension, but it may be too short (for now, at least).

Can I ask for another extension if we still haven't received it within the allowed period?

I think you can ask for another extension - best back up your request with proof of what you've done so far to obtain the certificate, as best as you can. You don't want them to assume the worst of you and think you need more time because you're tardy or lazy - you want to show it's legit.

You might try something like asking via email (of possible) to speed things up at the Japanese consulate, and get a reply saying that's impossible. You could use that to show CIC it's beyond your control.

Good luck!

(Worst case scenario - you could ask your MP to message/call CIC on your behalf. But I'd save that for a real necessity.)

I am also facing this issue but I didn't apply my immigration yet because I didn't get certificate from UAE due to their system.
I have send documents to one of friend they didn't issue even not mention any problem, later I talk to ministry of Interior UAE about my problem they said police certificate only issued to person whom have valid UAE residential visa and Emirates ID and physical in UAE.
While I call to embassy they said you can forward us documents now I am going to send to embassy that will take more than 4 months.
Suppose if I didn't get PCC from UAE where I have been for more than 3 years CIC will accept my explanation letter ?

Hey I'm having the exact problem you are. Manila asked for police check and gives 30 days. Told them it'll take 2 months. They replied back saying 30 days is more than enough. Give it to us or get rejected.

Just wondering what's your update now ???

I guess you can contact CIC and try to explain your situation, then ask if there are ways around it, or if they have a solution to your dilemma.

I sent them a scanned copy of the claim slip Japan Embassy gave me. Then they agreed to give me additional 30 days to produce the certificate. It didn't take 2mos before Japan Embassy contacted me and told me that I can already claim the certificate. More like, 1 month and a half of waiting time. But still better than the 2-3 months waiting period Japan Embassy gave us.

So once I claimed the certificate, I sent it to the Manila Visa Office immediately. I also emailed them that the certificate is in the mail so they should expect to receive it the following day.

I havent heard from them since, so I guess it's a good sign.
