Spousal and App fees

I am so confused.. I went online to cic online services to pay my Fees for my Application and Spousal app fee. The total was 550.00, I also paid for the work permit and open work permit fes. I printed the Bar Code receipts .. My question is When I went to the site to pay the fees, I had to Register with my email and some security Questions in order to pay , So how do they know who I am?. Usually when you pay for something a site will want your actual name your address at the Minimum They only had a place for my email.. How do they connect my payment to ME ? Is it when I mail everything into CIC, that the connection is made?? If that's the case anyone could use the barcode receipt if it was stolen..

Also do I have to Register for another account to get updates and status and stuff like that ??.. I saw something called a GC Key.. do I need that ?? Is the info I gave for my online payments the same account for everything ?? Is payment site the same site for all your info that you may want such as your application status and other information from CIC ? OMG I hope I am making since to who ever reads this
