Hey everyone!

I finally found a Forum where hopefully people can help and support me with my issue.
I looked through all those threads - but it's a lot!

I quick explain my situation & I'm looking forward to get answers/help/recommendations ...

I lived in Canada from Summer 2010 till Summer 2011 with a Work & Holiday Visa.
I had a great time and it definitely changed my life.
That what shouldn't happen - happened: I felt deeply in love.
I am in a relationship with my boyfriend since October 2010.
In June 2011 I had to leave Canada because my visa expired and additionally my boyfriend was deployed to Afghanistan (he works at the CF).
He visited me during his leave in Germany and I visited him in Canada in December 2011. He also spent the holidays in Germany with me.

Although we were separated for over 6 months we managed to keep our relationship and we're still in love.
I decided now to leave my country to live/work/study in Canada.

My boyfriend wants to sponsor me now, so I can get permanent resident in Canada.

I started filling out those documents (it's insane what they want to know .. lol).
But then I found the "Processing times for sponsorship of spouses, common-law or conjugal partners and dependent children applications processed by visa offices outside Canada"

My questions:

Does it really need the time of 9 months for Germany plus the 72 days in Canada?
Anybody experiences?
What is the best way to proof that we are in a real relationship? Photos/Travel documents/letters what else?

Does anybody have recommendations for me?
What is really important?

I would really appreciate if anybody can help me :)

Before we get into the additional details...

Are you married now? If not, did you live together for a minimum of 12 months to qualify as a common law couple? If not, it's important that you do one (either get married or live together to qualify as common law) before you apply for PR. Technically you can apply as a conjugal couple. However this category is extremely difficult to prove and is typically reserved for couples who face significant barriers to marriage and/or obtaining common law status.

Thanks for your quick response.

We are not married. We are both persons who think that getting married after 1 1/2 years is a little bit too early.
We were going to apply as conjugal partners - because we couldn't live together (I had to leave & he deployed).

Do you think that it really be a problem to apply as "conjugal partners"?

There's no black and white answer. But - yes, there's definitely a possibility that the officer reviewing your file may not feel you qualify as conjugal because there is nothing stopping you from getting married. Having said that, a handful of couples here have qualified as conjugal without having significant barriers. Conjugal is definitely the more difficult route to take and carries a higher chance of refusal. Even if you are a genuine couple, your file could still be refused if the officer doesn't feel you qualify under the conjugal definition.

Use the search feature of this forum to look up "conjugal" and read as many threads as you can on the subject. I think it's a good idea that you really familiarize yourself with what conjugal really means and the type of proof you're going to have to provide.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi Lex, I'm from Germany myself. I came to Canada in August 2011, my process went smooth and fast, I didn't have much proof, about 10 pics couple of letters from friends and family. You guys have to proof to the cic that you intend to be in Canada before the medical expires.

Good luck

keep in mind: applying as conjugal partners is not really meant for people that aren't ready to get married yet. It's for people that are in a commited marriage-like relationship, but cannot get married or live together for several reasons. So if you think you are not ready to get married yet, getting sponsored might not be the right thing for you right away. You should be seriously committed to each other, like if you were married. And you also have to prove that, even as conjugal partners.

Thank you for all your posts!

After making myself more familiar with the status “conjugal” – I feel pretty desperate.

We cannot apply as “common-law” because we couldn't live together for over 12 months, because my visa expired and my boyfriend “lived” almost 5 months in Afghanistan.

We are not getting married yet, because we both believe in marriage as a bond for a lifetime.
That doesn't mean we don't plan on getting married in the future.

I cannot apply for another visa – because I already used my Work&Holiday visa, all other visas require a work contract from a Canadian employer.

I cannot afford to just live as a tourist for a year in Canada so that we could apply as common-law.

So just because we don't want to get married yet we can't live together?

Maybe anybody has ideas that could help me!

@ hopetoland: Did you apply as conjugal?

There is no fixed time.
