Sponsorship package sent to WRONG VISA OFFICE. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

I just received the e-mail today saying that my Application to sponsor was approved. But there is a major concern!! It says that it will be sent to Mexico which is 17 months for processing and my partner has been residing in Spain legally for over 6 years!!! The address he put in the application was for Barcelona Spain. ALL of our forms corresponded with Barcelona, Spain!

In the e-mail it said " This visa office was selected based on your relative's home address". This doesn't make sense. It should of went to the Paris office which only takes 8 months of processing as an immigration officer told me on the phone previously.

I contacted CIC via phone and a call centre agent said she put an inquiry saying the mistake and was told this could take up to three months just to get a response back..

I am so saddened by this as I don't know what I can do. I feel like I have no control over the situation and I am shocked. :(

Amy comments are appreciated. Thank you :(

I assume your partner a Mexican citizen? Some people who have not resided in their home country since they were children have had their applications sent to that country's visa office. No one knows really why CIC chooses one VO over another that would make more sense.

Assuming your spouse is Mexican, it hasn't been sent to the wrong office. CIC chooses based on either citizenship or residence, regardless of the applicant's preference or what country-specific checklist they use. Lately, it seems that they are strongly favoring citizenship.

I believe that Mexico City averages less than a year. I suggest you join the thread and have a look at the spreadsheet http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/mexico-t35385.11685.html.

Hello,
I had the same problem (I was Born in China, but I have been living in PERU for the last 25 years), My Husband applied to sponsor me, which he is been already approved as Sponsor, but then, the email said that the Application Package has been sent to Hong Kong instead of Perú.
We called CIC reporting the mistake, but we had the same response than "michelfoucault" (that they wrote an inquiry about that and we are going to have a response in 3 months).
2 weeks later (September 17th), I received an email from Hong Kong Visa office confirming that my application was received in Hong Kong.
I don´t know what to expect; Im afraid is gonna take 4 more months than in Peru, I believe thats a mistake, because "the VO in Hong Kong has no information about where I´ve been graduated, or Worked, etc; and in CIC web page, my home address is: PERU"

Do any of you have any information about this? .. Maybe there is a new rule that is now applying?
I would really appreciate any comments.
Thank You

Hi

It wasn't a mistake. CIC has always chosen the visa office based on EITHER the country of residence or the country of nationality. This is not a new rule.
