Here is my situation my husband has been here since September and they stamped his passport to only be here til March. 30 days before March he will apply for an extension of a visit, while that is going on we will be sending in our sponsorship application in January. If his extension visa expires does he have to leave? Just curious as to how that works if we don't get any word on the status of the application before his extended visitor visa expires.

if you're applying inland, then your husband is on implied status as soon as you send your application.

Sweden is right, but once he left Canada for any reason, maybe the implied status willl not be valid?!

Well if the sponsorship is inland, the sponsored person is not supposed to leave Canada at all during the process. If the applicant leaves Canada, there is a risk to not be let in again, which obviously cancels the "implied status" but also the whole application, you would have to start all over again, applying outland this time.

So implied status indeed, but not leaving Canada is part of the deal (that's why it's inland...)
