Sponsorship implied Status with IEC working holiday?

Hi everyone.

I'm currently on a working holiday through IEC that expires in Feb 2017. I am going to apply inland for PR with my common law Canadian partner as my sponsor before that happens.

I have read that I won't get implied worker status after my visa expires while I wait for the results, which is fine, but do I get implied visitor status? Or do I need to also apply to extend my stay as a visitor in order to legally remain in Canada while I wait?

Thanks in advance for any help. I've been scouring CIC and the internet for information about this, and even tried calling CIC but their call centre is rubbish (and have given me wrong answers in the past).

the pr application does not give you implied status. what gives you implied status is the OWP permit application, if you choose to include it in your application. if you send in the OWP application with your PR application, you will have implied status until a decision is made on the OWP, which currently takes ~ 4mo. while it's not required to extend your status as a visitor while you wait for the OWP to process, if for some chance your application is returned after your status expires, you will then be out of status. This is why sometimes it's recommended to extend your stay as a visitor to cover yourself in the chance the application is returned.

if you don't apply for the OWP with your PR application, then you won't have implied status and will need to apply to extend your stay as a visitor.

where are you from? depending on your citizenship and when you plan to apply, it still may be better to apply outland. some countries are being processed in 4-6 months total time, so the OWP doesn't make sense for a lot of applicants.

Yes, you would have Implied Status as a visitor once your IEC permit expires in Feb. You would have to stop working at that point and would not be able to work again until you received the OWP.

As said above, for most people, outland is the better option.
