If you are already a common/law couple and you "land" without declaring or including him/her in your application, then s/he is no longer a member of the family class and can never be sponsored. You then open your self up to misrepresentation. You have to inform the processing office that you are in a c/law relationship and your spouse has to complete the forms, you have to amend yours, pay the fee, s/he has to wait for medical instructions and as well obtain the police reports.

Hi many thanks for your help, but do you think I still have time to do this just before I reach Quebec. If so, what are the forms that I should fill in. Thanks again for help.

You will have to make the time. As PMM said, if you don't do it, then you will be unable to sponsor them to Canada later on. They will have to immigrate to Canada on their own, without you sponsoring them. If that isn't an option, then you HAVE to add them to your application now.
I would recommend contacting the visa office that processed your application for instructions.

Thanks for the reply. The embassy told me that it is possible to sponsor my common law partner only in Canada. They told me to bring all amendments at the port of entry in Canada. They advised if I want to return my passport with visa, I would have to start a fresh application for a new CSQ. I asked them that it is better to sponsor my partner when I will be in Canada. I read somewhere that this can be done at the port of entry as marital status can change during/ after the visa process. Can someone help me.... pls....

God only knows where you are getting this information, read this from the Immigration Regulations

9) A foreign national shall not be considered a member of the family class by virtue of their relationship to a sponsor if

(a) the foreign national is the sponsor's spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner and is under 16 years of age;

(b) the foreign national is the sponsor's spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner, the sponsor has an existing sponsorship undertaking in respect of a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner and the period referred to in subsection 132(1) in respect of that undertaking has not ended;

(c) the foreign national is the sponsor's spouse and

(i) the sponsor or the foreign national was, at the time of their marriage, the spouse of another person, or

(ii) the sponsor has lived separate and apart from the foreign national for at least one year and

(A) the sponsor is the common-law partner of another person or the conjugal partner of another foreign national, or

(B) the foreign national is the common-law partner of another person or the conjugal partner of another sponsor; or

d) subject to subsection (10), the sponsor previously made an application for permanent residence and became a permanent resident and, at the time of that application, the foreign national was a non-accompanying family member of the sponsor and was not examined.

You do what you want to do, or hear, because if you "land' and your family not examined you will never be able to sponsor them, and it is quite likely that you will be reported for misrepresentation. But it is your choice, you have been warned, so go ahead and make your own errors.

Hi again and thank you again for the information. I reported several time even as from the beginning of the year that I have a common law partner. The problem is that I could'nt include him on my visa application since we need to have at least 1 year cohabiting. Now the embassy is telling me that I need to report all amendments at the port of entry. I have their replies and my mail I forwarded so many times........ I am desperate now....
