Me and my wife filled out an application for sponsorship from outside Canada months ago and sent it off all paid and receipts and imm numbers in order. We have heard nothing from them for some time now until today when they sent me a letter to tell me that they have tried to contact me regarding things missing from the application and because they haven't heard back in 90days they have returned the whole application back to us.

We have never been contacted by them! I gave them my email, phone number, and address and we have never heard anything. We would have known if something came because we have been watching the mail daily since we sent it.

Now im stuck at stage 1 and I have all the papers back in my hand. Is there anything I can do other than send it off again?? and will they let me know what I had missing in the first place???

Sorry about your ordeal. Have you checked your spam/junk mail? The email could be there. There is also the possibility they meant to send the email or letter but never did (human error).

I would go through the application again and using the checklist, try to figure out what could be missing. Some of the forms may have been updated since you sent your application. To find out, check the bottom left on each form to see the month and year. So you will need to redo those ones... better yet, it would be good to redo all the forms so the signatures are more recent.

would all of my work still be valid? i.e. we had to swear by a couple of things infront of a lawyer and also provided a lot of info. re-doing it sounds like a lot of work (not that we wont do it) I want to call them and let them know they never got back to me or because of that fact I can have something fast tracked.

it seems crazy that its all back to square 1 after we put so much work into it the first time

Good idea to call them, but I don't think the call centre number works from outside Canada; unless there is a separate one for that purpose?

I don't see why any evidence of a genuine relationship would not be valid. But you can alsways ask them. If they accept your application back (as is) plus the documents they had requested, that would be the best case scenario. Otherwise, you would need to redo the police clearance certificate(s) too, since they have to be issued within 3 months of you applying and it's been over 90 days.

For future reference, when you don't hear from them past the processing time, do well to get in touch by email or fax. You can also order your GCMS notes(i.e. notes on your file) for under the Privacy Act or Access to Information Act. You can find this information on CIC's website.

From the forum, the common reasons for returning the application are:
a) having a gap in personal history. The person being sponsored needs to go through IMM 5669 (background declaration) and verify that there are no gaps. Example:
March 2010 - April 2011 (working)

June 2011 - September (studying)

There is a gap i.e. May 2011 to June 2011.

b) forms not entirely complete, not signed & dated, having blank spaces. If something does not apply, write 'N/A' (not applicable)

c) not writing 'N/A' against any document on the checklist which is not applicable. So officer thinks the form is 'missing' and will request it.

d) eventhough the instructions say something to the effect of, "provide personal history for the last 10 yrs or since 18 (if it's been less than 10 yrs)", the visa officers for some reason have requested some applicants to do it from 18 yrs of age eventhough they are over 30 years old.

e) using outdated forms

f) not providing Option C printout and no explanation why, etc.

You could ask your MP back in Canada to inquire on your behalf. She or he might be able to get a quicker answer out of CIC in regards to any communications sent or not sent.

Well you didn't reply back to SenoritaBella's post, so I'm assuming you really did have the email in the spam folder by mistake. At this point, you should contact your MP to ask what's going on.

i did check and it wasnt there. i always check it over lightly to see if anything has come through the cracks. thanks for all of the help i think a local mp is in order and im going to go through everything again. We have decided to do this all ourselves which is very daunting but its very demoralising when you see everything come back. At least it is some sort of progress though and they have looked at it at least.

I would definitely recommend calling first. Each time I've called, I got great results, friendly helpful attitudes, with very little waiting time. Call early ;)
