Sponsorship application and fees

I would like to thank you for the response I receive from my last recent post and I hope the people supporting this website will continue to prosper.

Here's my question, is it ok to fill up all the application forms electronically (meaning not hand written unless told otherwise)? I just thought it will be nicer that way... I'm also a little confused with the payment fees... should I pay all the processing fees right away? Thank you.

$75 for the sponsor;

$475 for a principal applicant (the person being sponsored) who is 22 years of age or
older, or who is married or in a common-law or conjugal relationship, regardless of age;

$490 for a principal applicant and accompanying family members who are not exempted (The Right of Permanent Residence Fee)

1. sure you can fill all the forms on-line and have them printed out.
2. it's recommended to have all the fees to be paid in advance, to avoid delays in your process.

You can actually pay the right of PR fee of $490 later if you want, that's what I did.

Yes, you can absolutely fill in the forms electronically! That's why they make the forms fillable. Much easier for them to read and easier for you to fit more on too.

Yes, the fees you listed are corrected. You can pay the RPR fee later, but you should be aware that if you do that you can expect a 1-2 month delay in finalizing your application.

My husband and I have been married for 1.5 years... He lives in Bermuda (as a contract worker, for 3 years so far with another 2 years potentially), and has Portuguese citizenship. I was laid off last year (dec.2008), and thought that I was going to be going back to that job, however I didn't. I have been actively looking for work, but still haven't found anything. We have all of our documents together, all the papers signed and ready to go! I'm just really worried that because I haven't been working that I won't be allowed to sponsor him! Is this a valid concern? My husband makes enough money to be able to support me living in Ontario, Canada and himself in Bermuda. I don't think that immigration cares about that though. Any advice and help would be very much appreciated!!

You don't have to meet any financial minimum requirements if the one you're sponsoring is "your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no dependent children", so you should be ok as long as you're not on welfare.
