Hi everyone,

I am a Malaysian citizen, but been a Canadian PR for about 21 years (almost all my family members have become Canadian citizens since, should have done that in hindsight :() Anyways I have been working in Taiwan for the past few years to be with my girlfriend, whom is now my wife. I am currently back in Canada and working. Although my PR card is still valid, I have been outside of Canada for over 3 of the past 5 years. Fortunately, customs officer didn't ask anything upon my return. In the meantime, I do not plan on leaving the country, at least for the next 9.5 months.

The potential problem is that I plan on sponsoring my Taiwanese wife. As she does not want to do long distance again, she will be flying here in October and we will be applying inland shortly after. We originally wanted to apply outland, but the Canadian office in Taiwan is closed and all applications are sent to Hong Kong. From what I have been reading on these boards, applications that go there seem to take just as long as applying inland

As a "sponsor", by not fulfilling the residence obligation be a concern? Any thoughts or experiences in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Slowly losing hair thinking about all this, as others probably have...... :'(
