I'm currently filling in an Undertaking to Sponsor form to support my wifes residence visa and question 10 asks "when did you become a Canadian Citizen" they want the exact date!

I know it was some time around 1986 but can't remember the date. The lamenated card which is a replacement for one lost has a YA column which contains the year the replacement card was issued but apart from that it doesnt contain alot of useful information.

Is this information vital as a copy of the certificate will acompany the application anyway.

When you did your oath, you supposedly got a paper certificate and supposedly they also told you not to lose it because it is the only piece of paper that has the date you became a citizen on it. If you still have it, you can check. If you don't have it any more, you can get them to look up your records, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/search.asp

I do not think I would risk just leaving it out.
