Hi everyone! I've been researching a lot about the whole family sponsorship process and I was wondering if I could get some feedback on the feasibility of our plan.
My fiancé and I are getting married in November and trying to determine the most efficient way to get him into Canada. He is South African citizen and I am Canadian citizen by birth. We both live in South Africa. I am here on study visa which will be expiring at the end of December. Originally, I was planning to go back to Canada and get our life set up and he would remain in South Africa until granted his PR.
However, the processing time for the Pretoria office is long and after reading this forum I am really worried that my then husband will not be able to come visit me while I am in Canada due to concerns about him overstaying. Also, since South Africa has revised immigration law and become inconsistent and difficult, I am worried I may also not be granted entry into South Africa if I want to come visit him for the same reason. It would mean we would have to meet in-between which is not ideal as we are quite limited financially at this stage.
So I was thinking if there was any way around the long period of time apart. My idea is can we both move to South Korea or China or Taiwan to teach English for a year (or a bit longer) and do the Outland application from there? My understanding is I would have to sponsor him showing grounds we intend to move back to Canada and that we would then have the option of processing the application through either Pretoria or Beijing visa offices. The advantage of this being that the Beijing time is much quicker than the Pretoria time. We both have always wanted to travel more and, since neither of us are settled in our careers yet, it seemed like it might actually be a fun way to spend the wait. My fiancé already has a TEFL qualification as well since he was planning on moving to South Korea prior to meeting me.
Is this a feasible plan? Or will CIC still want us to use Pretoria office? We would be applying right after moving to Korea/China/Taiwan probably sometime early next year. Has anyone else tried something similar?
Thank you for all your help!
