Hi all,

I am applying to sponsor my parents with the 2017 application. I have a question: My country provides with birth certificates that are noth in native language and English. Do i still need to translate it in english & get the translation noterized. It may sound like a silly question, but it appears that CIC is very strict on all aspects of the application package submitted. Thanks,

As long as every single word on the birth certfiicates have the English translation, it should be fine to send it as is.

Regarding supporting documents that are not in English: ie. Parent's marriage certificate. Online it mentiones the following:

Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by:

the English or French translation; and
an affidavit from the person who completed the translation; and
a certified copy of the original document.

I am planning to submit the original certificate, along with a translation and an affidavit from the person who completed the translation (sworn in the presence of a notary public). Since i would be submitting the original, do i have to submit the certified copy of the original document?

Thanks

Don't submit originals unless specifically asked. Documents aren't always returned - that's why they ask for a certified copy.

Would appreciate an answer to the above, and the following:

Am i wrong or in the website of CIC there's a mistake - as i am getting confused. Regarding the principal applicant definition it says this is the person i am sponsoring, and below it also says that the principal applicant fills in the form 5409 ??? ???. Doesn't the form 5409 refers to me - the sponsor? Your input is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Information for the Principal Applicant

Who is the principal applicant?

In regard to you, the sponsor, the principal applicant is the person you are sponsoring to come to Canada and is declared as the primary applicant in the Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008).

What does the principal applicant do?

At this stage, the principal applicant must:

sign the Application to sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344), except for Quebec residents,
complete and sign the Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008) and the Additional Dependants/Declaration (IMM 0008DEP) and include your accompanying and non-accompanying dependants on one form
Additional Dependants/Declaration (IMM 0008DEP) if more than five accompanying or non-accompanying family members exist
complete the Schedule A – Background/Declaration (IMM 5669)
complete the Additional Family Information (IMM 5406)
complete and sign the Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (IMM 5409), if applicable.

5409 is if principal applicant (your father or mother) lives with his or her common in law patener currently.
Mostly our parents are married. So marriage certuficate is submitted instead of this form.

Hello!

I am gathering my documents for sponsoring my parents and having some trouble with IMM1344 form.

1. When i validate, it says everything is good and form has been validated. However, when i try to reopen the same form, it says that it is no longer validated because of an error with the cosigner contact information. The country code (chose as Canada/US) is automatically populated as "+1" but the validation error indicates that I have entered the country code as "11". Wondering if anyone else has run into these issues. I have tried the form completion from 3 different laptops/computers and its always the same :(

2. Does it matter if I put in my dates on the computer and then validate, print, sign and courier to my parents and they are handwriting the date when they sign?

3. Although the forms version is 06/2017 has anyone noticed that the barcode comes dated 2014?

Thanks!
