Sponsoring my wife and her son

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and I have a few questions. As you have guessed from the title I want to sponsor my wife who lives
in the Dominican Republic, with me, for the last 2.5 years. I am confused if we need to get her medical test done before we submit the application?
The doctor responsible for these tests says no, but on the Canada immigration website its confusing, one place says to submit the form with the application while in another spot it says to wait until you submit it and you are called to go. The other question, a biggie, is she has a 7 year old son. The father is not listed on the birth certificate or any papers, and has no interest in his child. Can we submit the application and just say that she doesn't know who it is? We have already asked him and he doesn't care if we take her son to Canada, but he is really lazy and its proving difficult to get him to sign any papers to that effect. I don't want to lie or be dishonest but getting this guy to do anything is proving a real challenge. Will immigration accept an application where the father is "unknown"? Thanks in advance to everyone who is able to help, I'm really starting to stress out over this.

Welcome :)

It is best to do the medical exam before applying. When you make the appointment, you'll need to explain to the Panel Physician's office that you are applying through the Family Class and you have an Appendix C (applicants in other classes need to wait before submitting their medical exam). You can get the Appendix C in your regional packet

Yes (if the birth certificate lists it that way), if you don't know who the father is.

However, since it sounds like you know who the father is, consider including his name on the additional family information form. You can explain that his name is not included on the birth certificate and the custody arrangements. It would serve as proof that he is the Father even for future immigration decisions (e.g., should the son want to his Father to visit 20 years from now ... for an important day like a graduation or wedding).

Hi! From Philippines here.. we did our medical ahead as it is needed in the checklist, and my son's biological father is not listed in any of my son's legal documents so his presence is not necessary at all.. :)
