Hello everyone,

My wife is from another country and we held a long distance relationship for a little over 2 years, having seen each other in person twice throughout the period. She then came for her second visit on a visitor's visa and we got married a month after. We have been living together with my parents for about 11 months now.

We have filled in the forms and gathered the requested documents, however we do not have a lot of the things that are said needed to prove that our relationship is "genuine and continuous", such as joint accounts, phone bills (we always spoke through the internet) or e-mails (most of them got lost on the way, and for the most part we used Ventrillo which keeps no record). We also had a very small wedding, only my parents, my brothers and two friends attended. I am concerned that these things might be a problem and I would like advice on how to proceed. Should we attached a letter explaining why the wedding was small, or would they consider it tedious? Also what other things can we include that will help the application?

Any help is appreciate.

As many pictures that show the development of your relationship. Wedding pictures, greeting cards from family or to each other, letters from your family speaking about your relationship and its development. Receipts from trips wedding etc.. not knowing where your wife is from but you could show copies of all your visa stamps or entry and exit stamps in your passports. Explain every detail as much as you can... why her family couldnt come to the wedding.. Write as much as possible.. its better to be thorough in explaining than have an IO misinterpret something and maybe you will not have an interview.. I'm sure others might have some ideas as well.... good luck!

Me and my wife went through similiar we met online ,any phone records or pictures letters frmo family friends etc.airline tickets from previous visits
all this can help .we even sent a copy of our wedding video..they sent it back guess im not hollywood material ah well,send everything you can think of where the two of you are linked in any way .

You are not allowed to send any videos, cds, dvds, or anything with mechanical devices in it.. even electronic cards..

So basically they are more interested in our relationship before we got married when we lived away? Because you'd think that living together for 11 months would prove something =/

They are interested in your whole relationship. The more you have, the better. And yes, the 11 months you have been living together WILL be important.

One question, what is her status now? You said she came on a visitor's visa, you got married one month later, and have now been living together for 11 months. Most visitor visa's expire after 6 months. Did she get her visitor's visa extended?

Yes, she got a visa extension and it's about to expire again, so we are re-applying for that too.

On the topic, is there any chance that she gets deported? Say the sponsorship gets denied for whatever reason, and we tried to re-apply at a later date, would the "visa extension people" have a problem with it? Would they take my wife away from me?

Are you applying inland or outland? Your recourse in the case of a refusal depends on how you apply. And don't put the cart before the horse here. You are just at the start of the process so don't stress about something like that now. Think positively about this stuff.

We are applying inland. I know we should focus on filling the papers and getting everything right, but the thought of seeing her go again frightens me, especially because it was so hard for her to get a visitor's visa in the first place.
