Hello to all knowing. I have few important questions that I am hoping someone here with the appropriate knowledge will shed some light to me. I have recently gotten married, quite recently actually, just a few days. I am a Canadian Citizen and he has Greek Citizenship. I intend to sponsor my spouse, but am a little confused with the visa status he should have while we apply. He is presently here as a visitor for another month. As I have understood, we need to wait for our marriage to be registered before we apply for sponsorship. Unless someone knows otherwise. If that is the case, then it could take anywhere between 4 to 10 weeks before we receive our marriage certificate. Question 1. Can I still apply for sponsoring him without the marriage certificate? Question 2. What kind of visa should he apply for so that he remains with me and is legally in Canada? Question 3. how long should this visa be for? Can it be extended while we wait for a work permit or permanent residence status? Question 4. Can we still apply for his work permit before the application for sponsorship?
Thank you
V

1. You should wait for the marriage certificate. Otherwise the entire application may be returned.
2. He should apply for a visitor visa extension.
3. Ask for six months and indicate you're waiting for the marriage certificate so that you can sponsor him as your spouse inland.
4. No - you can't.

Thank you for your reply. What do we do after the six month visa expires? Do we extend it again? Does he get some type of temporary visa while we wait ? Is the open work permit like a visa?
