Sponsoring my Korean wife for permanent residency

For the drivers license, there is a higher standard for the proof of residency. To get our health card, I gave them our cell phone contract with our address on it. Because it did not go through the mail, it was not accepted as proof for the DL, but they accepted it for our health cards.

Other stuff I showed them (for my wife)

Marriage certificate
Pr receipt
Sponsorship approval
Passports (they photo copied info page and page where her visa stamp was)

All these were originals. Also, there was no fee to get health card. For DL, it is 85 dollars each. Also, I showed them the English translation of our Korean drivers licenses that we got from the driving agency in Korea and they said that they were acceptable. So no trip to the consulate for us!

Two months ago, I called CIC to find out what was going on and they said I'd been approved for sponsorship but I had never received an email or letter from them. The attendant said they had put my representative's email address in as main contact (my mom) but she didn't receive anything either. I'd asked them to re-send it but still haven't gotten anything.

Do you guys have any contact info for anyone higher up at the CIC?

My MP's office is totally useless now.

I would call CIC and ask them, again, to resend the SA email.

Have you considered ordering your GCMS notes? That will probably tell you exactly what's going on with your file.

Yeah, I have looked into the GCMS notes. Have to pay to get them right?

I would think that given the length of time your application has been outstanding, 4-6 weeks to find out exactly what's going on would be a relatively short period of time.

I haven't been insured in Canada for about 3 years now but luckily when I asked for a quote back home the price was still reasonable and they didn't say anything about not having a driving record for a while.

Alright, so, I've been trying to get a handle on this whole situation with me going to Canada first in February and my wife coming some time next summer (hopefully with the PR application complete).

It's an understatement to say that this is the most stressful situation that I have experienced in my life. No word of a joke. Coming to Korea, to a new country, culture and not knowing anything about it or what I was doing here doesn't nearly equate.

Some members here advised that when my wife comes to Canada and in the event that for some reason the PR isn't complete, she should have a copy of the sponsorship approval (which I'm still fighting to get a copy of) and a return ticket but in asking my MP's office for assistance in moving that along and getting the SA confirmation letter, my MP's office wrote back with this:

"In order for her to arrive and stay in Canada, the full processing of the application must be complete. At that time, appropriate paperwork would be issued by the embassy for her arrival in Canada with PR status. I cannot advise if you wish to arrive in Canada without the proper documentation. A return ticket WILL NOT be sufficient."

I wrote back to the MP's office telling them what I know (having read it here) about my wife not needing to send her passport to Manila because she's Korean, about the last step being the receipt of the COPR, about her arriving in Toronto and needing to go to the immigration office there, etc ...

Truly, I'm just venting now because you guys understand what the process is like.
