Hello all,

I am writing here today to check in on sponsoring an only sister to Canada.
She has a 12 year old child, is currently separated and lives in Asia.

I make well over the low income cut-off and would like to know the answers to a couple of questions:

1. in the IMM 1344E - Q6 - The Principal applicant is your ?
The answer is Adult Sister, but I have options Other relative or Orphaned sister?

Please help me, and I will in turn help those who may need my help.

regards, :)

To confirm you're eligible... you don't have any spouse, no kids, both parents are deceased, and no other family members who are Canadian PR/citizens?

Select "Other relative". "Orphaned Sister" would apply if she was a minor.

Yes, the main criteria most people don't realize is that having living parents anywhere in the world makes them ineligible. If this doesn't apply to you, then you would select "other relative"

Yes - he needs to have a passport. Yes - he can be included as a dependent. She will need his father's written consent to bring the child to Canada.

Your sister is the principal applicant, you are the sponsor. Her son is a dependent.

Scylla, thank you!! You've been helping folks here for at least 4 years as far as I remember. His father is not in contact with her. Do we still need this?

She needs either permission from the father or full legal custody granted by the courts. This is a non-negotiable point.

2. financial evaluation - I am waiting for the CRa to return the docs but i know incomes and have completed this too
3. IMM008 - General Application - Her info is filled out, and her son as her dependant is filled in here as well

4. Do i need to fill in the Additional Dependants form? **

5. I am now completing the Background Declaration form for her : )
