I got permanent residence July 2013, I just wanted to know if I take a course and get a student loan for 20K , will my sponsor have to pay for it in anyway? (regarding the 3 year support)
Thanks for replies.

No, it has nothing to do with CIC or PR.

No, but I think if you decide to leave him and don't repay the loan, he will have to.

No - the sponsor will not have to pay this money back. A student loan is a personal loan with a bank. It's no different than a credit card or mortgage. The person who took out the loan is responsible for it.

It's completely different than the social assistance rule.

the only way he would be responsible to pay it back( if she decided not) is if he cosigned the loan for her.

He would've had to co-sign. It's pretty difficult to obtain osap without a co-signer, whether it's a family member, spouse, or common-law. Thing is, if you default on loan, you will have bad credit for years and will make life difficult for you in Canada. There are many ways for you to contact osap to work out a payment plan to make payments when you finish your studies. They give you 6 months to secure job (after graduation) before you make payments as well.

So getting a student loan is not as easy in Canada as the US?(without a cosigner?) Also would one still be able to get A US student loan for schools in Canada,. I thought i read that somewhere that it is possible?
