Hi everyone,

Couple questions regarding the partner questionnaire (IMM5490E)

I am in a common-law relationship with my girlfriend (we both live together in Canada)

1. Question 20 asks if we are "in a common-law relationship". If I answer yes to this question, do I ignore question 21 (Are you in a conjugal relationship) or answer "no", even though we are clearly intimate?

2. We had no ceremony (common-law), so the answer for question 22 (Was there a formal ceremony?) is also "no". If there was no ceremony, then there clearly was no reception, so do I skip question 23 (was there a reception?) or do I answer "no" (the form asks us to explain if there was no reception).

3. Question 24 and 25 ask if we ever visited each other during our relationship. We both live in Canada, and it has been this way since we started dating. How do I even answer this kind of question?

Thank you everyone for the help! These questions are killing me...

Do not leave questions unanswered other than the ones the form directly advises you to skip as you are not married.

20. Yes

21. No - This question is asking if you are in a conjugal relationship and do not qualify as common law.

22. No - Explain

23. No - Explain

24. No - Explain you have lived together throughout your relationship

25. No - Repetitive but provide same explanation as 24

I just said we cohabit and see each on a daily basis for 24/25, I attached a document which I wrote in depth answers like progression of the relationship etc.

21. Put 'no'. This question is asking if you are in a conjugal partner relationship - as opposed to a common-law partner relationship. Because you are living together, 'no' is the right answer here.
23. Answer 'no'. In general, do not just skip questions unless the form says to. You can give essentially the same explanation that you did for question 22.
24 and 25: Just explain that you have been living together throughout your relationship. You could designate the applicant as the visitor, and say 'yes' for 25. 'No' would be OK too, particularly if you moved into an apartment at the same time. In either case explain that you live together.
