Hi,

I am wondering if sponsor can visit his/her home country while the sponsorship application of the person he/she is sponsoring is still in process. I mean for the brief period of 2-3 weeks etc for family reunion or attend the family members wedding?

Please provide the appropriate link about this where its stated in CIC website.

if you are a Canadian citizen, you can stay anywhere in the world you want but if you are a PR, you are supposed to stay inside canada for whole process except short trips for work, business or family visit. if you are planning to go for 2-3 weeks, that should be fine but not for few months.

it says clearly that id you are a PR you must remain in Canada. Short family visits (2 to 3 weeks maximum) are OK

If I live outside Canada, may I sponsor?

If you are a Canadian citizen, you may sponsor a spouse, a common-law partner or conjugal partner, or a dependent child who has no children of his or her own. However, you must demonstrate that you will live in Canada when the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.

Note: Permanent residents residing abroad may not sponsor from outside of Canada. Canadian citizens travelling as tourists are not considered to be residing abroad.
