Sponsor Document Checklist - Item 18 - Proof of employment

I'm sponsoring my wife and we both live in the US. We do have a dependent child together so I believe the min income requirement applies for me.

Question:
I would like to avoid asking for a letter from my employer stating my period of employment, salary, and regular hours per week. A request like this would raise suspicions that I am taking steps to leave the company in the USA, which I am but since the processing period can take up to 15 months I am not planning on notifying my intention to quit until after the PR is approved. Would I be able to provide pay stubs and tax statement to replace the letter from employer?

Inputs much appreciated.

My husband's employer didn't even bother to ask what the letter was for.

This is what I would say "I need a letter for the government stating my period of employment, salary, and regular hours per week." Notice you don't say which government. If your HR is chatty/nosy, just say "It's for my wife" or "My wife needs it for something she's doing." If HR presses on, just pretend to be ignorant.

Less can be more ;)

I second that. You can even say "My wife needs it for the government." (which is a mix of what amikety said haha)

Anything is possible, although I haven't heard of it happening. They definitely didn't call my husband's work place before he was approved to sponsor.

Getting a letter from employer like this is also common when applying for a new apartment lease, mortgage, car loan or other big purchase. So there are many reasons to ask for it.

CIC will never actually call an employer to verify, unless they have a specific reason to think the letter is fraudulent.

A yearly tax statement should be fine. Also as another person mentioned, you could be using this letter "verification/confirmation of income" for many purposes, bank, loan, credit, lease, car purchase etc. so your employer does not need to know the specific reason.

I was in the same position, not wanting to alert my employer to the fact the I was planning on leaving, so I didn't ask them for a letter. In place of it, I sent a copy of my contract, which contained all of the same info, as well as my wage slips to show I still worked there on those terms; with those, I put another page explaining that I would be putting my employment at risk if I asked for a letter.
