Good day, I was hoping someone can help me in regards of few things from the from IMM 5490, question numbers 17,18 and 21!
It ask me as the Sponerer, on #17. To provide a "Option C Printout". I've been living in the UK for the past 16 years (since I was 23) and always worked here and not in Canada. Do I omit this bit?
#18. Its ask for a original of a letter from my employer stating my employment period, salary and hours worked per week. Do I need to send this as I am working in the UK? If so, I do not want my employer to find out I am going to leave them as this my cause some problems in the short term; can I provide payslips and or an employment of contract instead?
#21. Its asking me to provide proof that will be living in Canada when my spouce moves to Canada as a PR. I will be living with my Mom and paying her rent for a few years, would a rental agreement be sufficient? I have not applied for work and not planning to do so until I move there...need a 6 month break!! I am also wanting to open a small business in the future whilst not applying for work from the UK. Any help on the above would be great!! Thanking you in advance!

1. Instead of the Option C, you can provide your latest P24 (Certificate of Pay and Tax Deducted) with a cover note explaining what you wrote about working in the UK and not Canada.

2. If you submit the P24, you won't need this letter.

3. Provide a letter from your Mom stating her awareness and agreement with these plans. Outline what you wrote here about not planning to go back to work for a while and how you plan to support yourself in the future.

A P24 is provided by employers in the UK and certain other countries with a similar tax system (like mine in Jamaica) as a summary of how much salary and benefits the employee has received for the year and how much PAYE and NIC contributions have been deducted from that total annual salary.

I do not know if during tax reform they changed the name of the form, but up to a few years ago when I studied for my Advanced Tax exam (UK-based certification), it was still a P24. The full name is Certificate of Pay and Tax Deducted, and the employer is obliged by law to provide one for each employee still employed to the company on December 31 each year.

I wonder why its so important to CIC of my income here in the UK? It has no bearing of my future employment in Canada? Any thoughts? Just curious! :-X

Although there is no specific income requirement to sponsor your spouse, CIC does need to know you are capable of being self-sufficient, and are not in receipt of social assistance for reasons other than disability, which would disqualify you as a sponsor. If you were in receipt of social assistance in the UK as your only source of income, how would you expect to be allowed to sponsor someone to Canada?

I have the same issue, have never worked in Canada as I moved to Ireland when I was 11. I contacted my Visa Office and they said that as I am applying outland, I do not need to provide any income details. I just sent an email confirming my current contract and a savings statement. Hopefully thats enough?

As an alternative to the Option C, the letter from your employer really should be a formal statement on letterhead detailing your contract. An email is very informal. It may be accepted, but I wouldn't encourage it.
