Hello All,

I was holding SOWP and It was going to expire in November. As soon as my spouse got her PGWP I have applied to extend my Open work permit and I am now in implied status.

On my confirmation letter it says "You are authorized to continue working with the same conditions (ie: employer and occupation) until March 19, 2022 or until a decision is made on your application, whichever is first."

Because of the backlog and delays and also the processing time estimates on IRCC website I don't think my work permit will be issued anytime soon. But, if they don't process it I have to quit my current job. Do you know anything that I can do for this? Your help is appreciated.

Cheers,

You can continue working while waiting for your application to be processed even if your letter expires. See the link and check whether you meet the conditions that allow you to continue to work.

Thank you for your reply. But in the letter that they send to me it says '...until March 19, 2022 or until a decision is made on your application, whichever is first.' This make me confused because it does not clearly says until we make a decisions it also says or until a certain date and whichever first.

"Officers should understand that the validity date of the letter in no way overrides the authority of paragraph R186(u), which allows foreign nationals who meet the requirements to continue working until a final decision is made on their work permit renewal application or the foreign national leaves Canada."
