Hi Friends,
I am a foreign worker from India; already working in Canada from last 2 months and having a skilled job. I wish to apply for my wife's SOWP (Spousal Open Work Permit), and wish to apply for my son as well. From CIC website; I came to know that children above 6 yrs of age need study permit. But what would be type of application for my 5 yr old son?
I asked few people in forum, one of the senior members replied that my son will be added as a dependent with my wife's application. My wife is filling SOWP form and could not see any such option, even I couldn't find it out for her ???

Could someone please answer my following queries??? please......
1) Where to mention dependent child with SOWP application? which form, question number/page number or any reference.
2) If dependent is mentioned already with SOWP application; should we fill any separate form for that dependent???

I sincerely request our senior forum mates to share their valuable advice....

Thanks in advance....

You apply a TRV for your 5 year old son as dependent to your work permit, it is a separate application to your wife's SOWP application. They can both stay in Canada for the duration of your work permit when approved. Happy to help.

Oh thx a lot for your reply. I already downloaded forms as per eligibility questionnaire. But CIC website mentions many other documents along with WP application & TRV application, where as in MyCIC account very fewer documents are requested. For e.g. family info not asked for SOWP neither for TRV of my son, shall I submit only the documents listed in the online application document checklist??

Thanks again for your guidance.

Submit the documents requested in your MyCIC account and have the others ready and on standby just in case they ask later. Not sure hy your wife isn't being asked for her family info but for your son it is not required as he is under 18 years old.

Submit a paper application! My husband applied online with the documents asked and he was rejected, they did not bother to ask for additional forms or anything... so don't take chance. Apply through VFS/VAC in india, they have document checklist on their website!

is it better to apply visitor visa for both of them or sowp for spouse & visitor for son.But many people says ,my wife is not working(she is house wife) in india. she worked three years back for 2 years. so i will not get sowp. and also many says visitor visa is getting rejected.

Totally worried what to apply? pls help me.

Hi

You should apply for sowp for your spouse and visitor for son. Your intention is to bring them to Canada so visitor visa doesn't make sense as they know that once they enter canada you do not want them to go back. Visitor visa is applied when the person plans to be here for short term and return to the home country. Since your PR is already in process they know that your bringing your spouse and children to be with you while the process is finalized.

Do ask other people on the forum for their view. According to my view, sowp for spouse is the way to go.

hope this helps!

Applying for SOWP, have question about depending children:
  1. What should I select visa type for dependent children, Visitor or study (ages b/w 5y-10y)? If I select study then what will I upload in the LOA requirement tabs?
  2. What should I select visa type for infant (less than 1y old)?
