Hello Friends,

I am planning to apply for my PR and have couple of questions. Found this forum to be very informative and helpful. Can one of you please help me.

My current status is that I am temporary foreign worker with 2 years of work experience in Canada. So I am planning to apply under the Canadian Experience Class. Below are my questions:

1. Since my current employer does not support my PR, should I apply on my own or through the help of a representative. Are there any additional advantages if we go through a consultant?

2. How would I inform the consulate if my marital status changes after I file my PR application and till what stage of the process am I allowed to inform about my change in marital status?

3. To which consulate should I post my application to while I am in Canada?

4. Do I need to provide some kind of a letter or afidavit since my employer does not support the PR application?

5. How long is it taking now for the entire process to complete? If possible, can someone try to provide an approximate timeline for each step

6. How much time do we have to land in Canada once we receive out Passport stamped?

Kindly help me with the answers for these questions.

Regards
Daniel

1. Check the forms, if you can fill them out, then apply on your own. No real advantage from Consultant other than making sure the forms are completed correctly and you have all the supporting documentation.
2. Once you are married, you have to amend your forms add the forms for your spouse and pay the fees.
3. All CEC go to Buffalo.
4. You should read the instructions, you will need an employment letter outlining your duties, salary, when you worked.
5, About 14 months for 80% of the applications.
6. 12 months from the date of medical or expiry of the passport, whichever comes first.

Thanks for the reply PMM. I still need some clarifications. (in Brackets)

2. Once you are married, you have to amend your forms add the forms for your spouse and pay the fees. (What all applications I need to fill once I am married?)
4. You should read the instructions, you will need an employment letter outlining your duties, salary, when you worked. (Doc checklist says that "If you cannot provide a reference from an employer, provide a written explanation and any documentation that would support your claim to such employment and provide the information as set forth above", so based on your experience, what would be the best set of docs which can suplement employers reference letter?)
5, About 14 months for 80% of the applications. (how much time it might take just to received the PP request?)

2. Once you are married, you have to amend your forms add the forms for your spouse and pay the fees. (What all applications I need to fill once I am married?)

You contact the visa office and inform them that your family status has changed (see instructions on CIC-BUffalo website), they will then send you instructions on how to add your wife to the application.

Keep in mind that the "letter of employment" is not a recommendation, endorsement, or letter of "support" or sponsorship from your employer - it merely states the facts of your employment. Sometimes it helps to show the employer the checklist, as some employers may confuse the meaning of the letter. It is a very important document in the application, so you should try to get it.

If your employer refuses to give it to you, it could be challenging to prove your case.

- Write the letter yourself; explain your efforts to get one and why you could not, and document that if you can (e.g. if you have email correspondence where your employer refused), and then include ALL the required information. Also include the name and contact information of your direct supervisor.

- Include documents such as a signed contract; job description; any written/email correspondence regarding job duties, wages, etc; information about the company (annual report, website); most recent and end-of-year paystubs; and if you no longer work for that employer, be sure to include a copy of the Record of Employment.

14 months... if you receive a PP request, you're (usually) almost done.

Note that adding family members while an application is in process may extend the processing time.
