I've staying in Canada from last three years as an International student, but i have changed my status as an temporary foriegn worker for a surrey based transport company as long haul truck-trailer driver through LMO and just about to apply work permit, because everything else is done. so at this point I want to change my employer and is this temporary work can lead me to Permanent Residence and which Province has lesser processing times.

Hope to hear some good advice
Thanx.

If you are in BC, your employer can sponsor you under PNP after you work for 9 months first, see http://www.welcomebc.ca/wbc/immigration/come/work/about/strategic_occupations/entry_level/trucking.page?

So you have gotten your LMO and are just about to apply for a work permit and now you want to change employers already? You will not gain PR through PNP by employer hopping. You need to stay with one employer and get them to sponsor you because you are an asset to their company. You will need to stay with that employer until you have your PR in hand because if you quit, the PNP can withdraw their nomination and your application is thereby cancelled.

If you want to change employers, you will first need a new LMO and then a new work permit before you can start. Alberta also has an immigration class for long haul truck drivers, see http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrating/ainp-eds-semi-skilled-criteria.aspx#eligible and so does Saskatchewan, see http://www.saskimmigrationcanada.ca/sinp-drivers-questions If you want to know which PNP is faster, you can make a call to each of them and ask how long they take for a nomination. As far as I know, in both AB and SK, you must work for 6 months before you can apply but keep in mind that your employer also has to want to sponsor you. If they don't want to, you can not force them.

Just one more Final question, What if I don't apply for work permit now and change my employer and start the process from beginning with new employer, Does it affect anything.

No, it does not affect anything. It will just take you time to find another employer, get a new LMO, get a work permit for them etc. before you can actually start working and work on getting your PNP. Do you have another employer lined up already? What is wrong with the first one?

The only thing I'm worried about is, B.C. PNP rules need two years of work experience with the same employer before applying for PNP and after there is an delay in processing for files. Im only worried about time interval. Because, person who did everything in my case, he said i have to work just 6 months and then file PNP. Things just got misguided.
So I just want to put everything on a safe side.

If you read the link I gave for BC, it says you must have worked for the employer for 9 months before you can apply but you must have at least 2 years experience as a truck driver but doesn't have to be from BC or even from Canada. However, it has to be in the past 3 years so if you have been studying in Canada for the past 3 years, you are right that you would not qualify in BC until after 2 years.

If you follow the Alberta link, you find that they say you must work for 6 months before you can apply but also that you should have prior professional driving experience. They say preference given to drivers with driving experience for 3 out of the last 5 years but they list no minimum.

It is only Saskatchewan that does not seem to ask for prior experience as a truck driver.

I am also currently a graduate student in Canada, quite recently infact in my first semester... but im thinking of changing my career as a long haul truck driver..... but im confused weather i can do that or not and if i can, how??? I have no prior experience but I plan to take a professional course from within Canada for a class 1 license.. but can i do that while being on a study permit???
Secondly if i get the course done and get a license i think i have a good chance of getting a job, but what are the chances of changing from study permit to a work permit in this case????
