Hello! My American husband got his CoPR this month :) we were approved in just under 6 months which we did not expect and are very, very grateful for :D However, he cannot come for a little while, maybe a few months, because some insanely high and unexpected bills had come up over the last several months, and he needs to save more money before coming.

I noticed that there is an expiry date on the validity of the PR visa (I am assuming this is the card that he would get when he comes?). It says he has to come by Sept 11, 2016. We expect he would be here before then anyway of course. What if for some reason he couldn't come here by Sept 11th?

We still do not know if he is driving or flying. If he is flying, how does he get the PR card etc. Does he have to pay any additional fees? We paid the full amount when applying so should be good. If he drives, does he have to pay fees for the vehicle and his belongings?

It also mentions on the CoPR that he must reside with me continuously for 2 years. Does this mean that he cannot visit back home? What would happen if we decided to move to the US after a year and a half or something? I am not saying this will happen or that we are planning it, but you never know what the future holds for jobs, life, etc.

It keeps mentioning in the letter that he would have to provide his PR visa, etc etc when he arrives and that the officer would review his PR visa. He doesn't have one though. So just a little confused about some of the new terms and stuff :) Thanks!

Congratulations!

The expiry date on the COPR simply means that he must land as a PR prior to that date. He could, in theory, come to Canada tomorrow...land and then return to the states anytime after that (even same day). The problem with would be, that he needs to have his B4 forms (pertaining to goods that he'll be bringing with him and/or importing into Canada after he lands) completed before he lands. This has nothing to do with the PR Card that he will get after he lands.

After he lands, the immigration officer will place the order for his PC Card for him (no additional charge) and it will arrive in the mail (to any address in Canada) in about 45 days (+ mailing time, based on the current processing times).

Now...regarding Condition: 51 that he has on the COPR. Yes, he must live with you for two years or he risks violating the terms of his conditional PR. This does NOT mean that he can't travel without you for short trips (like a week or two). And, if you are a Canadian citizen, you could both move anywhere in the world and the days spent together outside of Canada will still count towards his RO (Residency Obligation) to maintain his PR.

The COPR is his PR visa.

Thanks Ponga! You have been very helpful. I am a Canadian, and I didn't realize that we could move somewhere and that he would still be honoring his residency obligation.

Ok, I didn't realize that the CoPR was considered the visa, hehe. Thanks.

So then for sure he must come here before Sept 11th then. Looks like they give people 6 months to be ready. We would have been ready now if it hadn't been for some unexpected circumstances.

So how does he get the B4 forms and what approx would he have to pay for his vehicle and belongings? We just kinda need to know because he doesn't have a lot of money saved up at the moment and we don't wanna get stuck paying for something that takes all of our funds for living.

Thanks again :D
