Hi, I have received my CoPR through Express Entry. My province shown in the letter is Ottawa. I plan to do a soft landing where I am travelling from India to Montreal and have a connecting flight to New York (same day). Is that OK to complete the landing formalities? Or I need to enter Canada from Ottawa only?

Quebec can refuse to land you because they have a different immigration system. You may be allowed to land there if you have a connecting flight to your destination province. But if you are going to New York instead, this likely will not work.
Generally, you can enter Canada from anywhere if you are not a provincial nominee, but not Quebec
