Greetings to you all! I trust that you are all well and happy!

I am delighted to share that I have got my COPR and I am planning to make a soft landing in July with my wife and my little daughter who is 3 years old. We are thinking of going to Ottawa (but we are open to any cheaper place except Quebec). I have been looking for some Airbnb and Hotels for a few days, but the prices are very high. A hotel for a month costs as much as an Airbnb for two months. If you have any suggestions for cheaper options, please share them with me!

Since it is just a soft landing, you don't have to stay that long in one city. You can: 1) Return to home country the next day or two; 2) Stay in a day or two in Ottawa, then another two in Toronto, then another two in Niagara Falls, then another two in Halifax, and so on .... to see Canada...

Thank you for your reply but I will be wanting to finish my SIN and Bank account etc.. so I need some time there also maybe get the PR card before moving out. It's not about Ottawa being the expensive part it's about the whole of Canada lol, but what I was asking is if you know any other cheap options like furnished apartments which website is best to search on etc..

You can finish your SIN and bank account in a single day. Especially if you land in YYZ Toronto airport, you can finish SIN right after you land. There's not much to do in Ottawa and certainly sightseeing there wouldn't need a month.

For PR card, you might have to budget up to 6 months stay in Canada.

Especially if you change your Canadian address frequently during the process in getting the PR card.

I was thinking of giving out a close friend's address for the PR card, what do you think about that?

Will that good friend have a room for you to stay? Or some location near by that he/she can help you to know that area?
May not be a bad place to start.

Bonjour,
